the spectator
the bad thing about academic arts writing is youre never allowed to use “i” or “we” or even “the viewer”. you have to say “the spectator”. why? to show you are aware of “the politics of looking” and to show you have read guy debord and baudrillard, or at the very least, john berger. i have read all that, and yes, it is interesting, but not enough to make me change my pronouns to “the spectator”.
